Sep 24
All of us know how important oral hygiene is, yet we ignore it. At times, we think we maintain good oral hygiene when we don’t. How can you say whether you maintain good oral hygiene or not?
- You have no foul breath in your mouth.
- There are no food particles present in any part of your mouth.
- You don’t suffer from toothache.
- You gums are healthy.
The term, oral hygiene, simply refers to the practice of keeping the mouth healthy by cleaning the teeth and mouth regularly. If you are wondering how to maintain oral hygiene, read on.
- Brush at least twice a day. Try to brush after meals. Make sure you brush well before you go to bed. One important thing to remember is to wait for an hour after a meal before you brush.
- Floss everyday. Try to floss once everyday, immediately after you have brushed. This will help you clean every nook and corner of your teeth.
- Clean your tongue once everyday. Follow up brushing and flossing with tongue cleaning for a thorough cleaning of your mouth.
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day. This will keep your mouth clean and hydrated.
- Eat sugary food with meals. The digestive juices in your meal will help wash away the sugar.
- Rinse your mouth after consuming anything. Since brushing is not feasible every time you eat or drink something, thorough rinsing will keep your mouth clean.
Apart from maintaining good oral hygiene, go to your dentist for regular dental check-ups to rule out the possibility of any gum or dental disease.
