High-Tech Toothbrush

Oct 26

We’ve talked about Phillips Sonicare toothbrushes on past posts and they offer a toothbrush that Wayzata Dental & SmileSpa proudly recommends to our patients.

Phillips Sonicare recently introduced the perfect solution for the traveling executive, the vacationer or the person who wants to have the convenience of an electronic toothbrush at work.

DiamondClean by Phillips Sonicare is the answer!

Not only does this toothbrush have the most advanced cleaning technology to date, it is proven to remove 100% more plaque than a manual toothbrush in the hard-to-reach areas. It will also whiten teeth in as little as one week.

DiamondClean will hold a charge for three weeks, comes with 5 brush types and the most innovative feature – a laptop-ready USB plug, as well as a wall plug for charging.

You can purchase the Sonicare DiamondClean from drugstore.com, Amazon.com, or Bed Bath & Beyond.

What is Gingivitis?

Aug 08

It is estimated that approximately 60% of all adults over the age of 45 have inflammation of the gums. The other sad statistic is that the percentage in teens (ages 13 to 17) is approximately 75%.

Gingivitis is the name given to gum inflammation. With gingivitis, gums usually appear red and swollen and bleed easily. Many times, there is a build up of plaque and tartar along the gum line.

Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease and can usually be reversed with consistent daily brushing and flossing and, most importantly, regular dental cleanings and checkups. Left untreated, the result can be serious damage to the supporting bone and tissue.

Effective at-home treatments include an antibacterial mouthwash and the use of an electric toothbrush (see our post on the Sonicare toothbrush). If you are a smoker, this is one more reason to stop! If you find that a prescribed medication is causing problems, talk with your doctor about a possible dose reduction or even a change.

If you have gingivitis, Dr. McDowell and our hygienists can answer your questions about the treatment and the best steps to take to prevent a reoccurrence.

Wayzata Dental & SmileSpa is conveniently located if you are in the Hamel, Delano, or Corcoran area.
