Braces… conjure images of “metal mouth” and pain.  Here are some interesting facts about braces:

1. Braces don’t have to be uncomfortable. So true! You can have straight teeth without a lot of pain.
2. Spaces will start to close as soon as I start wearing braces. It takes time for teeth to realign themselves. It is not an instant process. Once realignment is complete, gaps will begin to close.
3. If I have braces, my teeth will be straight forever. Braces are just the first step. Your teeth have made major moves in your mouth. As far as they are concerned, they belong where they were, not where they are. When the braces come off, retainers go on to help keep your teeth straight.
4. How long will it take? Sometimes there are factors that can slow down treatment… not brushing well and missing appointments are two facts that can delay the removal of your braces. The date set for removing braces is a goal, but not cast in stone.
