Sleep disorders are more common than you think. People suffering from a lack of sleep have trouble functioning normally during the day. They live in a state of constant exhaustion because their mind and body needs a restful night.
Snoring is a large part of their disrupted sleep. It not only disturbs the sleeper, but also the spouse and possibly others in the household. When the snoring is extreme, it also disrupts the breathing of the sleeper. During an extensive and intensive snoring period, the sleeper can actually stop breathing.
Sleep apnea is a condition that can be treated. In many cases, a treatment as simple as a special mouthpiece can resolve the snoring and sleep deprivation problem. If a mouthpiece doesn’t resolve the issue, Dr. McDowell can work with you and your doctors to determine the cause and a solution.

A November 22 contract agreement, that takes effect in 2012, officially bans big-league players from carrying tobacco tins or packages in their uniforms at games or whenever fans are in the ballpark. The players can no longer use smokeless tobacco during TV interviews, at autograph signings or events where they meet fans or at team-sponsored appearances.
A 10-member organization was the driving force behind the negotiations. They have offered to work with the players association “toward a smokeless tobacco prohibition that would be in the best interests of baseball, the players, and the millions of young people who watch their idols.”
“In light of the serious health risks from smokeless tobacco – it causes oral cancer and has been linked to heart disease and pancreatic cancer – players should be encouraged to quit and be given support to help them do so,” said the letter signed by officials of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Cancer Society, American Dental Association, American Heart Association, American Lung Association, American Medical Association, Legacy, Oral Health America and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

The most obvious use for toothpaste is brushing your teeth, but it also comes in handy around the house.
Here are 5 ways to use toothpaste:
- Want shiny fingernails? Your fingernails and toenails are similar to your teeth. Scrub your nails gently with toothpaste for a brighter shine.
- Clean your jewelry. Use a soft toothbrush and a bit of toothpaste to gently scrub away dirt and grime. Your gems will shine like new! Warning – don’t use on pearls.
- Oops a nasty blemish pops out right before a special event. Put a dab of toothpaste on the pimple and let sit overnight. It will reduce redness and dry out the mess. Don’t forget to wash it off J.
- A bee sting hurts a lot. Remove the stinger and put a bit of toothpaste on the sting. It will help ease the pain a bit. Same with bug bites…toothpaste can take away the itch.
- Got a nail hole in the wall from a picture and no Spackle? Fill it with white toothpaste and smooth over. Once dried you can paint over if needed.
These are great ideas but always remember the most important job of that tube of toothpaste and brush your teeth twice daily as recommended.
