Fun Things to Do Outside
When the weather is perfect during Minnesota summers, you can’t afford to not be out enjoying it. There aren’t enough warm summer days in Minnesota to waste even one of them. Here are a few tremendous warm-weather opportunities you can enjoy during the summer months and even into the cooler fall days.
Visit One of the Many Beaches
Wayzata is located on the northeast end of Lake Minnetonka, offering the opportunity to enjoy the lake and the beautiful summer days. Depending on the type of beach day you’re looking for, you can find parks, restaurants, picnic areas, and more, all conveniently located in and around the Wayzata area.
And if you’re looking for a place to launch your boat so that you can enjoy the water with your family, be sure to head to one of the three boat launches. Gray’s Bay is owned and maintained by the Minnesota DNR.
Norenberg Memorial Gardens
The Norenberg Memorial Gardens is a place where you can enjoy the beauty of Lake Minnetonka. Trails throughout the gardens take you around the lake and through quiet, tranquil gardens where you can enjoy the beauty of nature at a slower pace. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing walk or a good conversation, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the gardens.
Dakota Rail Regional Trail
Stretching 28.1 miles from Wayzata to Lester Prairie, the Dakota Rail Regional Trail offers a running and biking trail that can be enjoyed by all ages and hopped onto in many different locations. The trail winds past the lakes and through the parks within each city. Many bikers enjoy taking the trail all or just half of the way.
Wayzata Depot
The Wayzata Depot is not only a depot where you can enjoy the history of the Great Northern Railway but also a scenic spot along the lake. Wayzata Depot is a railway museum that has been restored and maintained by the Minnesota Historical Society. Tours and walkthroughs are offered throughout the year, be sure to check their website for updates on events or tour times throughout the week.
Fun Inside Activities
Sometimes it’s just too warm to spend the day outside, and there’s always the occasional rainy day. When that’s the case, there are some great options within the Wayzata area that you can enjoy with your family. These are some of our favorites.
Rockin Jump Eagan
Trampoline parks have been a really popular attraction for a lot of families. Whether you like to jump with your kids or just cheer them on from the sidelines, Rockin Jump is a great place to let the kids loose. After jumping for a few hours, your kids will definitely be worn out and ready for a nap. Note that Eagan is a little bit of a drive outside of Wayzata.
kiddywampus
Offering summer camps and getaway days, kiddywampus is a fun and interactive toy store that your kids can enjoy while you shop for fun and creative new toys. As a place that offers art and event spaces for kids, kiddywampus is really a one-of-a-kind spot.

D’Amico & Sons
A locally run and owned Italian spot, D’Amico & Sons is a great restaurant for the whole family. Their pizzas receive great reviews and make for a fun thing to share amongst the table. Otherwise, you can indulge in the pasta as well.
Punch Pizza Wayzata
Another great pizza spot, Punch Pizza of Wayzata, makes delicious personal pizzas and salads that everyone in the family can enjoy. If the kids just want a cheese pizza, they’ve got that, and if you want something a little more complex, Punch can make that happen too.
Original Pancake House
Pancakes, eggs, waffles, and hot chocolate that the kids are sure to love. OPH is famous for all of its amazing eats and is a local favorite all of the time. Be sure to at least make one stop at Original Pancake House over the summer. You won’t regret the chance to indulge in some of their awesome pancakes.
Ben & Jerry’s
Ben & Jerry’s may be one of the best ice cream shops in all of the United States! (Maybe an exaggeration.) But, even as a dental office, we understand the importance of indulging in things like ice cream from time to time. And, if you’re going to enjoy a great scoop of rocky road, then you should probably do it at Ben & Jerry’s in Wayzata.
