People have feared the dentist for years, and it sometimes seems like there’s no way to fix that.

It can be painful and traumatizing for both kids and adults alike. The waiting rooms seem stale, and you never are quite sure what happens behind the revolving door of patients until it’s your turn to head on back through the doors.

At Wayzata Dental, one of our missions is to remove the fear of dentistry from all of our patients. We believe everyone should feel comfortable at the dentist’s office.

Today we’re talking about some of the common fears and addressing how a revolutionary type of dentistry is changing the way people feel about going to the dentist. That’s right; there are ways to go to the dentist and have a pain-free visit.

The Fears Surrounding Dentistry

Unfortunately, doctors of all kinds are often feared by a lot of people. There are a few specific fears that surround dentistry, and it’s not uncommon to experience dental anxiety or dentophobia.

The biggest problem with fearing the dentist is that outside of flossing and brushing your teeth, there isn’t a lot that you can do to prevent the need to visit the dentist. Sometimes genetics has played you a bad card, and your teeth just aren’t as strong as some other peoples.

In that case and others, if we’re going to have a healthy mouth, we’ve been forced to face our fears of needles, doctor’s offices, strange sounds, smells, and of course, the pain.

Pain is the kicker in this case because it creates a negative experience in our minds. We then try to avoid the dentist like the plague even if we know we need to schedule a visit.

There is another option!

The Dentist Can Be Pain-Free

It really doesn’t seem like it’s possible for the dentist to be pain-free. The tools used for dental treatments seem to only have one thing in mind, getting your teeth clean, not your comfort. Of course, your teeth need to be cleaned, but your comfort also needs to be a priority.

That’s where laser dentistry comes in.

Laser dentistry is a new practice that has achieved some pretty amazing things already. One of the big things that laser dentistry has helped dentists achieve is a pain-free approach to dentistry.

How is Laser Dentistry Pain-Free?

Lasers can achieve pain-free treatments with little to no risk or side effects. Traditionally tools were used to scrape away plack, fight off tooth decay, and treat areas for gum disease. With lasers, you don’t have to worry about the pain of different tools and drills coming in contact with your teeth.

Lasers use beams of light to clean your teeth, fight gum disease, and even to clean tooth decay. Better yet, the lasers actually will kill bacteria, which makes it less likely that you’ll have any infections.

By using lasers, dentists don’t have to worry about Novocain or other shots.

You don’t have to be afraid of the dentist any longer. There’s nothing to be afraid because there’s no pain.

Laser dentistry removes the fear by informing you of the processes and showing you what’s possible when the dentist isn’t scary anymore. You don’t have to worry about needles or dental drills anymore. In almost all operations, dentists don’t have to use anything but the laser, water, and air.

What’s This Mean for You?

This means that you don’t have to worry anymore. If you have kids, you can confidently bring them to the dentist without instilling a fear of the dentist. If you have kids between the ages of 10 and 18, they might find laser dentistry pretty cool. But, laser dentistry isn’t just for kids. It’s for everyone! And especially people who just straight-up don’t like the dentist. Your perception of the dentist is sure to change after your first visit to a laser-dentistry dentist.

Consider the trip to the dentist as a science lesson. At Wayzata Dental, we’re always willing to answer any questions, and we love talking about how laser dentistry works and why it’s an excellent option for the industry and your teeth.

No more fear means that you can enjoy the dentist. You’ll have a healthy mouth and one less thing causing you to stress.

Don’t Choose to be Sedated

Too many dentists are offering IV sedation or other sedation methods to fight pain and fear associated with dentists. While sedation is normally safe, there can be the occasional side effect. For example, it can be very confusing for patients when they do wake up, and it may cause some people to become nauseous.

While sedation is definitely an option, it doesn’t need to be what you choose for a simple cleaning or check-up. Choose laser dentistry instead and experience what a pain-free dentist visit is like.
